TikTok Clipping Guide
TikTok is the coldest audience your show will ever meet: nobody there owes your podcast anything. Clips win by earning the next three seconds, repeatedly, from a standing start.
Format
- Vertical 9:16, 1080 by 1920. Faces large, captions inside the safe zone, nothing important under the caption or UI edges.
- Length follows the moment, not the clock. Podcast clips usually land between 30 and 60 seconds; a story that needs 90 earns 90.
- Native upload only. A visible watermark from another platform quietly buries reach.
The cold open
Open on the strongest line in the clip, even if it happens at minute four. Setup is a luxury for audiences who already pressed play on purpose. If the first sentence could belong to any podcast, keep cutting until you find the one that could only belong to this guest.
Captions and sound
Burn captions in, proofed word by word. On TikTok the caption track is also your search surface: the words spoken and shown are how the clip gets found, so accurate captions are distribution, not decoration. Audio loud, even, no music fighting the voice.
What travels
Conflict, confession, and the contrarian number. A guest disagreeing with the host, admitting a mistake, or quoting a figure that sounds wrong will out-travel a clean summary every time. When we mine an episode for TikTok, those are the three seams we dig first.
